While browsing NylonTV I found this video. I love Yoko Ono and these designs are beautiful. This is the product of good music, art and fashion.  Check it out.

The avant garde label threeASFOUR collaborated with Yoko Ono on their spring 2010 collection. Yoko Ono contributed  her dot drawings printed on cotton and silk, which were then used in this collection. The designers of threeASFOUR also paid tribute to Yoko Ono by reanacting a scene from Ono’s famous Cut Piece performance, as part of the runway show. The evening  also included a preview of Ono’s new album, “Between My Head and the Sky,” which came out on 09/22/09.  To read more click here.

Icon Etiquette: Marilyn Monroe

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

marilyn-monroe-subwayNorma Jeane Baker A.K.A. Marilyn Monroe (June 1, 1926 – August 5, 1962) was an American actress, singer, model, sex symbol, muse and fashion icon. Rising from pin-up girl to international superstar. She studied at the Actors Studio. She formed Marilyn Monroe Productions and won a Golden Globe Award for her performance in Some Like it Hot.

In February 1953, Marilyn was named  “The Most Advertised Girl in the World”. In 1999, she was voted the ‘Sexiest Woman of the Century’ by People Magazine and named the number One Sex Star of the 20th Century by Playboy magazine. She was the inspiration behind Elton John’s “Like a candle in the wind” and was a muse to artists like Andy Warhol, who created a series of screen print portraits of her. Warhol-marilyn-62

William Travilla dressed Monroefor eight of her films and for many special events. This included the 1953 Photoplay awards, which she was publicly criticized for, for wearing a skin-tight gold lamé dress.

On May 19, 1962, Monroe made her last significant public appearance, singing “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” at a birthday party for President John F. Kennedy. She wore a dress specially designed and made for her by Jean Louis.

More than 45 years after her death, she is still inspiring the art and fashion world. For example: Dolce & Gabbana used images of Marilyn Monroe in their fall/winter 2009 Ready-to-Wear collection.

What they wore: New York Fashion week

Friday, September 18th, 2009

WHOWHATWEAR’s recent What they wore: New York Fashion week, in my oppinion showedcased some of the best and wrost dressed at New York Fashion week. Excited by some of the beautiful dresses worn, I decided to do my own little “what they wore” post on my favorite looks of the evening. I will skip the worst of them and if you don’t like it, gofugyourself instead. To see WHOWHATWEAR’S full coverage click here: What they wore: New York Fashion week Part one, Part two.

1. Lauren Santo Domingo
Vogue contributing editor Lauren Santo Domingo wore a very fashion forward, fall favorite, a long sleeved mini dress by Altuzarra, with Proenza Schouler’s high heel, suede, lace up booties. One of my favorites for its elegant ease through the shoulder, sleeve and waistline, not to mention  the luxe pale color. Santo Domingo owned it in this dress!

2. Rachel Bilson.
My absolute favorite among the three. Rachel Bilson, is wearing  a rainbow-colored Diane von Furstenberg print dress from the designer’s 2010 Resort collection. Simple black booties, and leather shoulder bag. Why is this my favorite you might ask? Bilson looked chic, yet she still remained to play it cool in her classic pair of Wafarers. Not too many people can pull off a frock like that and she is the perfect example of being fashionable and effortless all at once.

3. Julia Restoin Roitfeld
Tom Ford model, freelance creative director, and daughter of Carine, Julia Restoin Roitfeld is all Fall fashion in her Long-sleeve mini dress and thigh high boots, two of my favorite Fall trends.  Too many people try to wear all the the hottest trends at once and fail. They look like they have tried way too hard but not Roitfield! The luxurious sheen of her dress is just the right contrast against her black suede boots and I’m in love with her choice of simple accessories.

Icon Etiquette: Michael Jackson

Friday, June 26th, 2009

The king of pop and man of style, Michael Jackson, August 29, 1958 - June 25, 2009. Michael Jackson while bizarre and questionable at times, is the ultimate performer and iconic figure. As my friend Sarah put it this morning “Every person in the world knows who Michael Jackson is, he’s like John Lennon and Elvis Presley “, and he is, so today Streetfancy wants to recognize him for his musical journey and amazing accomplishments, his astounding performances, his style and the songs we all still dance to!

Icon Etiquette: Stevie Nicks

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

stevie

rockinoutFleetwood Mac front woman Stevie Nicks is famously known for her ethereal style, and iconic voice. Her style, as she put it in Allure magazine, is a “uniform”.
Her stage attire consists of chiffon skirts, shawls, capes, top hats, layers of lace, feathers, scarves, suede boots, fringe, ruffles and big blonde hair. Designer Margi Kent has worked with Nicks since the1970s to perfect her style.tamborinewomen

Nicks’ one of a kind look started the boho chic trend back in the mid 1970s and it is still around and popularized today (Mary-Kate Olsen). Her style on stage has created a movement, a counterculture in women’s fashion. Women wearing shawls and fringe sang, danced and spun in circles to “stand back” and “gypsy”. They still do!

Her vocal style and performance antics evolved from female singers like Grace Slick and Janis Joplin. She found inspiration from Joplin at a live performance and from a women in her own audience. This muse was dressed in chiffon and big boots. She took these looks and made them a combination of her own.

Her style and performance has created a trademark that is timeless and iconic, that is why she is recognized on Streetfancy.com as Icon Etiquette.
